Tides, storms and the low streets
Parts of the island are only a little above sea level. Heavy rain at high tide can leave water standing in streets and parking areas, and storms can push seawater and rain into garages and ground floors. That water is salty and unsanitary, and it may flow into storm drains faster than it can drain away.
Roofs and balconies face strong wind-driven rain. Sliding doors, window frames and terrace drains can leak when storms hit from the ocean side. Water from those entries often shows up inside as stains on ceilings, swollen baseboards or lifted floors, and tracing it takes careful moisture mapping.
